Housing Preservation Grant Notice of Funding Opportunity

What does this program do?

USDA Rural Development published the Fiscal Year 2026 Section 533 Housing Preservation Grant (HPG) Notice of Solicitation of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) on August 6, 2026. The HPG program awards grants to qualified organizations to repair or rehabilitate homes, rental properties, or co-ops occupied by low- and very-low-income residents in rural areas. 

Who may apply for this program?

  • Most state and local governmental entities

  • Nonprofit organizations

  • Federally recognized Tribes

  • Individual homeowners are not eligible

What is an eligible area?

  • Rural areas and towns with 20,000 or fewer people--Check eligible addresses

  • Federally recognized Tribal lands 

Applicants may submit preapplications to the USDA Rural Development State Offices or through Grants.gov. The deadline for receipt of all paper or electronic preapplications is September 8, 2026.
